Hiring a Magician FAQ

If this will be your first time hiring a professional entertainer, specifically a magician, here are some frequently asked questions that will jumpstart the process.

Q: Where are you based?
A:
Ryan Horsfall currently lives in San Francisco, CA.  He serves the Bay Area, and greater Sacramento area.

Q:  Where are the prices?
A:  Pricing for professional entertainment such as magic is based upon several different factors.  Because of this, accurate pricing cannot be made until we know a little about your event.   Specifically: type of performance, location, number of people, length of performance, and any special requests.  Contact us with the information for your event to receive a quote.

Q:  I found another magician who’s cheaper.  Why not go with them?
A:  Well, quite honestly, expect to get what you pay for.  Ryan's pricing is fair and affordable.  At the same time, he is a professional entertainer and his rates are on par with other quality magicians.  If another magician is offering you an hour show for fifty bucks or some other absurd price, consider your options.  You don't want to be disappointed and neither do your guests.

Q:  Does Ryan perform at children's parties?
A:
Although Ryan's magic is family friendly, he does not perform for children's parties or events.  He does enjoy mixed crowds that may include children, but kid's birthday parties and school shows are typically not good venues for his type of magic.  If you are wondering, Ryan considers anyone over 15 an adult, and will entertain for audiences consisting of this age group.  8 year olds who may act like they are 15 still don't qualify though!

Q:  Where can I see a sample of Ryan’s performance?
A:  There are several videos of Ryan’s work circulating on the video hosting sites online.  Ryan has become quite a hit among the internet viewers, who have posted his videos throughout the web.  We have provided links to the original videos under the Media page. Contact him to see the next time he plans on hitting the pavement.

Q:  What type of performance should I have at my event?
A:  Here’s a quick breakdown of each performance option.
Stand-up Show:  Performances for large seated groups.  Show length can vary from 15 minutes to an hour and a half depending upon your needs.  Show can also be geared as more comedic or more serious.  Use a stand-up show to jumpstart events, break up speeches, or be the highlight of your evening.

Close up:  Magic performed for small groups in a social atmosphere.  Ryan will move from group to group, so no stage or preparation is needed.  Works well for weddings, restaurants, cocktail parties, anything where people are mingling.  Breaks the ice between strangers, acts as a cover-up for logistical delays, and enhances the event.

Festivals/ Street:  Ryan will gather crowds in front of your establishment on a busy street or be the highlight of your festival.  No stage is needed either.  This can be a great promotional tool for a new business or festival.

Illusion Show:  Large scale shows or large audiences.  Ryan’s debut illusion show was a major hit.  If you are interested in producing or co-producing an hour to two hour illusion show filled with magic and stage illusion, contact Ryan immediately.

Q:  Who is in that picture at the top of this page?
A:
That is Ryan at age ten performing the magical drink trick in his living room.

Q:  I have a question that isn't answered here.  What do I do?
A:
Contact Ryan here and ask him yourself.  Most emails are answered the same day.
